Porn Stores in Manhattan Get Another Chance

AP, 12/16/05 - Vendors of X-rated materials in Manhattan now have another chance to fight a New York City zoning law that keeps them from most city neighborhoods.

The state's highest court sent their case back to trial court today.

Court of Appeals approved the move in a 4-to-3 decision.

Several adult clubs and video stores sued New York City over a 2001 amendment that banned all adult entertainment activity outside certain industrial areas.

The amendment changed a 1995 law that was designed to clean up Times Square and other neighborhoods by banishing sex shops to industrial districts.

Times Square once had 120 sex-related businesses, but the number has dropped to less than 20.
